Slavery and the Making of American Capitalism

By Edward E. Baptiste

Guest Presenter:  Jeph Harrison

On February 9, we’re featuring “The Half Has Never Been Told: Slavery and the Making of American Capitalism,” a book which offers a radical new interpretation of American history. Written by Edward E. Baptist, this book reveals how most important American economic innovations were ways to make slavery ever more profitable.

Jeph Harrison, Executive Book Review guest presenter, will relay his perspective about the book, and why the author believes the U.S. became a wealthy nation with global influence. He’ll share some of the facts presented in the book through intimate slave narratives, plantation records, newspapers, and the words of politicians, entrepreneurs, and escaped slaves.

RSVP to learn more about this compelling book. You do not have to read the book in advance to participate in the session. See you there.

If you can - don't miss the opportunity to participate in the in-person option.
